FOR DAMAGED STRUCTURES AND DEBRIS:

Please take pictures before, during, and after debris clean up for insurance and FEMA purposes. Please place debris on the curb, not on the roadway.  The Town is working with a contractor to pick up debris ASAP.  Remember to contact your insurance adjuster, and save that information-Waynesville Development Services staff may request that information.

Town inspectors are working with Haywood County to assess damage.  Staff will not enter property with “No Trespassing” signs.  They will not enter property that is clearly unaffected by the storm.  They will enter property that has clear signs of damage, and will enter unlocked structures to assess damage if it is evident that the area has been completely vacated.  Do not begin repairs until damage has been assessed and building permits filed.  Building permit fees will be waived.

The North Carolina Bar Association and volunteer attorneys will provide free emergency legal services to the community to assist with insurance and FEMA claims in the coming weeks. Keep copies of important legal documents (insurance policies, deeds, leases, birth certificates, social security cards, etc.) with you at all times if you evacuate to an emergency shelter. These documents can be vital to a successful claim for insurance coverage or FEMA relief.
